Project aim

The aim of the project was to improve traffic efficiency and travel time reliability on the Tasman Highway at Midway Point.

What we did

Our project team delivered the concept, preliminary and detailed design for duplication of the Tasman Highway across the Midway Point Peninsula and replacement of an existing roundabout with a new signalised intersection.  In addition to delivery of the design documentation, pitt&sherry carried out stakeholder and community engagement and managed the environmental and planning approvals.

Key design features of the project included:

• Installation of soil nail walls with a sandstone replica finish that minimised the footprint of the works and as a consequence the need for land acquisition.
• Extensive relocation of underground public utilities in a constrained environment.

Outcomes

The project has resulted in a significant travel time improvement for commuters travelling through Midway Point, particularly during the morning and afternoon peak periods. Replacement of the roundabout with traffic signals at Penna Road has also improved travel time reliability for drivers accessing the Tasman Highway from residential properties in Midway Point.
