Project aim

The project aimed to improve traffic efficiency and travel time reliability for drivers travelling between the southern beaches and Hobart through the establishment of a bypass of Sorell.

What we did

Our project team delivered the concept, preliminary and detailed design for the Sorell Bypass including roundabouts at either end and a two span Super T-beam bridge over the Sorell Rivulet.  The design was developed to be compatible with future duplication and to facilitate the installation of an overpass that would provide connectivity to land proposed for residential development on either side of the Bypass. 

In addition to the delivery of the design documentation, pitt&sherry carried out stakeholder and community engagement and managed the environmental and planning approvals.

Outcomes

The project has resulted in a significant travel time improvement for commuters travelling between Hobart and the Southern Beaches, and has improved road safety and amenity within the Sorell Township through the removal of commuter traffic.

The project will also assist in facilitating future residential development by increasing road network efficiency.
