Project aim

By replacing the structures the project aimed to remove the current structural deficiencies, and provide greater freight productivity, safety, and access to the road network for heavy vehicle loads. The replacement bridge at Glenora also includes a separated shared path across the structure, significantly improving safety for pedestrians, particularly given the proximity to the school and public swimming pool.

What we did

Our project team delivered the concept, preliminary and detailed design for the two Styx River Bridge replacements, including the design of two integral Super-T beam bridges, road realignment design on the bridge approaches, and geotechnical and hydraulic design for the new structures. We also undertook the design of the temporary bridge and associated road works to allow the bridge at Glenora to be replaced on the existing alignment.

The design philosophies required a delicate balance between the needs and desires of the client and key stakeholders, including adjacent landowners, Council, and public utility owners.

In addition to the delivery of the design documentation, pitt&sherry carried out stakeholder and community engagement and managed the environmental and planning approvals.

Outcomes

The project has resulted in improved safety, freight productivity and access to the road network for heavy vehicles. 

Safety of pedestrians at the Glenora bridge has also been improved with the inclusion of a separated shared path across the new bridge structure.
